My rave and rants as a makeup artist by Evolve Makeovers....

Exactly people think skills come by accident forgeting you pay a lot to get that skill, and after that had to get more knowledge on the skill over years to make you experienced and a professional.

We suffer a lot offering services to our society, they want the best yet they refused to pay for it. I can't count how many times i have heard "what? You Makeup artists are ripping us off! How much is marykay? Haanhan!" The truth is they might probably not call us if we have marykay in our box, most probably because they want our boxes snapped by their photographer so they want us to flaunt blackup, makeup forever, graftobian etc. The least of these products is 8k for one foundation, not to talk abt the powder, primer etc. Now the calculation they'll probably give will be is it once you'll use it? Yes you are right its an investment so this is where expertise comes in, you are paying us for our experience and being good at what at we do. "Someone will do it for 15k for me". Trust me you are just either a practice doll, they just finished makeup school and needs a portfolio badly or they are the ones ready with wine eyebrow pencil for you.

Another point i forgot to mention is this phrase "what is the big deal? Youtube is there". Yes you are right youtube is there so why bother us at all? After all the makeup done on youtube can be found here in naija abi? Why not also grab your degree along side. Youtube is just a guide not a professional evidence of our artistic talent or should i simply tell you to get your certificate from youtube. So next time i give price dont compare me with youtube, i am physical not digital.

And please stop trying to cajole we makeup artists by saying "Don't worry i will give you more jobs", we are not illiterates and we know more jobs means you'll still pay peanuts. You will not tell lawyers how to do their jobs so please refrain from telling us how to do ours.

Another phrase is "makeup artists are proud" yes! We are! You are not in our shoes and haven't faced half of what we face in our field, to cap it all we are quite learned! We have lawyers, doctors, engineers etc amongst us! Yes we have every reason to be proud. Also don't judge us by one person's character. Most our charges are based on expertise, experience, location and how many makeup needs to be done. Don't expect me to take 50k from you, and you want me to do your makeup, your hair, nails and you are changing thrice, your mum's makeup, and 5 bridal train, to cap it all you live in an ourskirt! Have a heart! It aint gonna happen ever! Wont even take 50k from you, for your three times makeup, hair n nails! Because i have bills to pay just like you and probably more than you.

Now lets do a simple analysis of why 50k wont work for outskirts, lets pick Lambe as an example, a cab wont take me to lambe for less than 3k5, thats 3k5 x 4 (to n fro), thats 14k, as we have to fix the bridal hair n nails a day to the wedding! We mostly work with assistants preferably professionals also and we pay lets say atleast 15k, because we will tire out easily we dont do all our work alone, so we have bridal hair specialists and nail specialists who we pay either based on contracts or salary but mostly based on contract sum of 20k and thats because they are your crew! Because if we try doing everything ourselves we might be tired by the time we start doing the makeup and might not give the bride best of service. 20k+15k+14k=49k.

As you can see this will not work well at all! I have not even calculated my own expertise and experience plus my products! I did not even calculate the stress of going to such distance! Now the above analysis is based on my location, so pricing differs as we have bridal hair specialists charging as much as 50k or more, thats experience and expertise. It is simple you want the best pay for it. Everything listed are analysis only as it most times more!

Despite the fact i used an outskirt to do a description the pricing of services wont change even within town as the difference is transportation but expertise and experience charges wont change ever. So i wont still do 50k for your hair, nails and makeup within town! Hehehehehehe! Sneaky heh!

So stop complaining on how much we charge instead look at the beautiful memories we will create, with good makeup you will still be happy 20yrs later looking at the pics.

It's really something the masses needs to know jare... even our so-called friends aren't ready to pay for services... as if, services aren't meant to be paid for! Pschew... If na ''goods" (e.g imagine me running a boutique )now Ehn, would they wanna pick it free? Please respect MUAS naa haba! Business thrive well when FRIENDS & FAMILIES pay for services rendered!!! Remember WE PAY BILLS biko...
