Learn How to Apply Cat Eye Liner

The first step to getting a perfect cat eye is to arm yourself with the right tools. While liquid liner is my go-to, beginners can benefit from using a flat, square-tipped, artificial-bristle brush, a micro-thin lining pencil brush, and a gel eyeliner. The unique shape of the brush will aid in creating the perfect shape, trust me.

Next, park yourself in front of a mirror, preferably one with a table or flat surface in front of it. First, dip the aforementioned brush into your pot of gel eye liner. Plant the elbow of the

arm holding the brush onto the table (to steady your hand). Proceed to paint a thin line from the inner to the outer corner of the eye. To make the process easier, be sure to look forward and slightly down as you apply. I know that many of you are guilty of tugging on your lid when you apply your liner, but please, don't. Not only will the constant tugging eventually cause wrinkles, but when you release the skin, the line almost always looks wonky.

Now, we want to create the signature flick that makes a cat eye so special. To do this, angle the flat tip of your brush slightly up and out, aligning it with your natural lower lash line. Press the tip into the skin to create the guide line for the flick. Then, using your liner-loaded, micro-fine pencil brush, proceed to connect the tip of the flick to the line on your lash line, about one-fifth of the way in from the outer corner. Of course, if you do choose to connect the line closer to the middle of your lid, the effect will be more dramatic. Fill the flick in with gel eyeliner, and you are done.
